I always felt Adalgisa should be a soprano, as the part lies fairly high-and she is an innocent young girl. I am a lyric soprano, and years ago I did Adalgisa with a dramatic soprano as Norma. But the combination of a mezzo Norma and a COLOURATURA Adalgisa??? I am a bit skeptical, but I would like to hear it!

I heard a streaming version today of the Decca recording and “Casta Diva” is just beautiful, so much more rich than previous recordings of this aria.
