Nutcracker BRB Victor Hochhauser goes to the High Court over Birmingham Royal Ballets Nutcracker

The ’s Nutcracker at London’s O2 arena in London has led to a High Court battle, says The Telegraph.

The 89 year-old promoterVictor Hochhauser is suing the owners of the O2 Arena for more than £338,000.

I have worked in this business for the past 60 years and I have never had any disputes, I have never been to court in my life, not even as a witness. All I want is the money I am owed by them – not a penny more and not a penny less.”

The December performances of the ballet made a substantial loss. Hochhauser is suing Ansco Arena, the firm which runs the O2, alleging that Ansco is trying to charge him for venue costs of £324,000 without supplying any underlying documents or invoices for expenses incurred.… [continue reading]

last night of the proms Reuters cast a foreign eye on the peculiarly British Last Night of PromsLang Lang wowed them, Wagnerian soprano got a laugh as a “British Brunnhilde,” but the stars of the Last Night of the BBC were standing in the middle of the .

The 700 or so “Prommers” who pay 5 pounds ($8) each for standing room in the cavernous, sold-out 5,000-seat oval hall on Saturday night gave almost as good a show as they got from the soloists, the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Edward Gardner and the 140-strong BBC Symphony Chorus.

Sporting everything from British Union Jack vests to horned Viking helmets, and armed with a formidable array of noisemakers, flags and spluttering balloons launched in a valiant but vain attempt to reach to the hall’s vertiginous ceiling, the Prommers kept up their side of the bargain for a high-spirited celebration of the end of the Proms season.… [continue reading]

In a statement they say that, like the protesters in London, they will be outside the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan on September 13 and the Auditorium Giovanni Agnelli–Lingotto in Turin on September 14. They don’t say that their protest will continue inside the theatres.

They previously asked the organisers of this three-week music festival, MITO (Milano-Torino), to cancel the programme, drawing note to a phrase on the orchestra’s website:
