The Royal Opera House has announced its biggest ever programme of streaming and digital content, across a large range of platforms, “brought straight from our house to your house” over the Christmas period.

World Ballet Day 2020 on 29 October, will be the biggest ever celebration of global dance with 40 dance companies participating in this year’s live streamed event.
The Royal Ballet’s director, Kevin O’Hare, says,
“I want people to feel the exhilaration and the warmth not only towards the dancers, but towards all the people who made it happen as well. That mass of people has one goal: to give of their best. There is something so moving about that.”
The Royal Ballet is Back on Stage, returning for a live-streamed performance from the stage of Covent Garden on Friday 9 October at 7.30pm.
The performing arts streaming service has partnered with the San Francisco Dance Film Festival, Screen.dance Festival, Scottish Ballet, and others, for a month-long festival from 3 August.
During its Summer Shorts Festival, Marquee TV will debut a curated selection of 28 short films from around the world each day, focused on dance and music, that will be free for all viewers on its platform.
The Royal Ballet’s Argentinian principal dancer, Marianela Nuñez, is in lockdown in Buenos Aires. She went there to be near her family and partner, because now home, for Nela, is London, which also happens to be home to her beloved company at The Royal Opera House.
We caught up via Skype in June: I was in my office in Milan, and Nela was 11,000 km away, sitting against an orange wall which steadily turned maroon then almost black as the day drew in.
Lockdown in Argentina! How’s that working out?
It’s very strict here. We started lockdown at the same time as England, pretty much – I know you in Italy started earlier. There were only a few cases, but obviously here there are more difficulties compared to Europe, and they were worried that the health system would collapse.
