The Italian Greta Garbo is gone: Rossella Falk dies at 86

5 May 2013 by gramilano 1 Comment

Rome, 10 November 1926 – Rome, 5 May 2013 One of the greatest Italian stage actresses has died in Rome at the age of 86. Rossella Falk was a giant among Italian actresses, with a slightly arrogant air and regal poise which set her apart from many of her more earthy colleagues. The label "the Italian Greta Garbo" was well chosen, and even her hairstyle recalled that of the … [Read more...] about The Italian Greta Garbo is gone: Rossella Falk dies at 86

As Tyne Daly brings her portrayl of Maria Callas to London, after the successful run on Broadway in Terrence McNally’s play, The Times spoke to one of the original Master Class students, a mezzo-soprano named Sheila Nadler. Critics round-up: Tyne Daly in ‘Master Class’ – “remarkable”

8 July 2011 by gramilano Leave a Comment

Tyne Daly plays that greatest of divas, Maria Calla, in  Terrence McNalls Mast Class at New York's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Her much anticipated performance has been well received: Towering before us — and tower she does, though she is not particularly tall — the celebrated opera singer is undeniably, overwhelmingly there. And yet she’s not there at all. One of … [Read more...] about Critics round-up: Tyne Daly in ‘Master Class’ – “remarkable”

As a revival of Terrence McNally’s Master Class opens on Broadway, he talks about his fascination with Maria Callas

26 March 2011 by gramilano Leave a Comment

Maria Callas was someone I've thought about since I was a very young person when I first heard her voice on the radio growing up in Texas. I fell in love with the sound of her voice. She has fascinated me. And then her life! That kind of inner turmoil of falling in love with and being rejected by one of the richest, most powerful men in the world — it's quite an extraordinary … [Read more...] about As a revival of Terrence McNally’s Master Class opens on Broadway, he talks about his fascination with Maria Callas
