Details of Big Dance 2012 were unveiled today by choreographer Wayne McGregor, who will create a new dance for 2,000 people to perform in Trafalgar Square next year.
As previously announced, Royal Ballet resident choreographer McGregor will direct the large-scale routine at the centre of the festival, which will become nationwide in 2012 as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
Big Dance 2012 will run from July 7 to 15, 2012 with events across the UK. The Trafalgar Square event is scheduled for July 14, 2012. This will follow a world record attempt on May 18, 2012 to create the largest multi-location dance routine with schools across the world.
McGregor commented: “I am excited at the prospect of being part of Big Dance. A major part of my preoccupation over the last few years has been to see how I can find ways to inspire creativity among young dancers and choreographers. Trafalgar Square will be the ultimate dance stage for all of us to work on.”
