American Ballet Theatre and Bolshoi Ballet principal David Hallberg will take short break from performing to allow his left ankle to recover fully after surgery.
Hallberg will be undergoing necessary surgery following his recent summer engagements with American Ballet Theatre and the Bolshoi Ballet at Lincoln Center, He has been advised by his doctors to have ankle surgery in order to continue dancing at his full capacities, and he will stay in New York City during the post operation period.
It is with great regret that I have to step off the stage for this period of recovery, but as an artist that relies on his body as his instrument, my main priority is to dance in full health and take the time needed to perform at that level again,
said Hallberg.
In 2015, he will resume his regular commitments with his companies in New York and Moscow as well as other commitments at La Scala in Milan, among others.

Graham Spicer is a writer, director and photographer in Milan, blogging (under the name ‘Gramilano') about dance, opera, music and photography for people “who are a bit like me and like some of the things I like”. He was a regular columnist for Opera Now magazine and wrote for the BBC until transferring to Italy.
His scribblings have appeared in various publications from Woman's Weekly to Gay Times, and he wrote the ‘Danza in Italia' column for Dancing Times magazine.
