Opera at La Scala cancelled for Covid-19
La Scala has been forced to cancel tomorrow’s performance of L’italiana in Algeri after a company member tested positive yesterday morning, Sunday 23 May, for Covid-19.
Only one performance for online streaming was planned of L’italiana in Algeri as previous regulations didn’t allow for public performances. However, recent changes allow up to 500 people to be present in the auditorium so the theatre decided to sell tickets for just €20 to people under 30. As well as the streaming on Facebook and YouTube, the production was also to be broadcast live on the radio.
Graham Spicer, aka ‘Gramilano’, is a writer, director and photographer based in Milan. He was a regular columnist for Opera Now magazine and wrote for the BBC until transferring to Italy. Graham was the historical advisor on Codice Carla, the 2023 documentary on Carla Fracci.
Graham also works as a dance photographer, and his photos have appeared in many books, theatre programmes, and magazines, including Dancing Times, Dance Spirit and Ballet2000, as well as all the major Italian newspapers.
He is a member of the Dance Section of The Critics’ Circle.
