Carlos Acosta returns to the Royal Opera House to celebrate his 50th Birthday
Carlos Acosta celebrates his 50th birthday (on 2 June) by returning to dance at the Royal Opera House from 26 – 30 July.
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my 50th Birthday – said Acosta – than by returning to dance on the Royal Opera House stage, a place that holds so many special memories for me. I’m very excited to perform with some of my close friends with what promises to be a Birthday celebration like no other.
Carlos at 50 will see Acosta perform some of his favourite solos and pas de deux from his career, including George Balanchine‘s Apollo and the Bedroom Scene from MacMillan’s Manon. He will be joined by friends and guest artists including Marianela Nuñez as well as dancers from the company he directs, Birmingham Royal Ballet, and his own company Acosta Danza.
Cuban-born Acosta retired from The Royal Ballet as Guest Principal in 2018 after a 30-year career and became Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2020.

Graham Spicer, aka ‘Gramilano’, is a writer, director and photographer based in Milan. He was a regular columnist for Opera Now magazine and wrote for the BBC until transferring to Italy. His articles have appeared in various publications from Woman’s Weekly to Gay Times, and he wrote the Danza in Italia column for Dancing Times magazine. Graham was the historical advisor on Codice Carla, the 2023 documentary on Italian ballerina Carla Fracci.
Graham also works as a dance photographer, and his photos have appeared in many books, theatre programmes, and magazines, including Dancing Times, Dance Spirit and Ballet2000, as well as all the major Italian newspapers.
He is a member of the Dance Section of The Critics’ Circle.
