Marcelo Gomes, principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre, will perform as a guest artist with the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden in London on February 9.
In his first appearance with the company, Gomes will dance the role of Oberon in Frederick Ashton's “Dream” opposite Alina Cojocaru, the role Sergei Polunin was scheduled to dance before his surprise departure from the company.
When Gomes danced the role with ABT the New York Post said,
Best of all was Marcelo Gomes' impassioned and extraordinarily assured performance as Oberon. The role is known for its treacherous turns; Gomes nailed every one without a single bobble.
A “bobble”, for non-Americans, is a mishandling of the ball in baseball!

Fascinating — thank you so much.
I had assumed he would be under contract.
Ballet and tattoos are an interesting combination.
@marcelogomes47 Have fun at the ROH – knock ’em dead… http://t.co/4kdoexJa #ballet
His first time with the company — no?
His début with the Royal Ballet, but not with the role.

So the third-rate Ukrainian has left – mysteriously..and Gomez has taken his place . He has as much style and finesse as the “Dancer/Truck-driver” male dancers of the Soviet era . That body-builder physique in tights is an insult to good taste – stay in London , Gomez .
Third-rate? Have you seen him? I might agree that he’s not the greatest actor around (two expressions only for Sleeping Beauty) but technically he is certainly first-rate. As the the Gomez comment… no comment.
Dear Ms. Asforth ,
Yes , I have seen him…” not the greatest actor around”….yea, and that ugly puss did not help…comparing him to Thiago , Rupert, and others at the Royal Ballet has perhaps clouded your judgment as to his status…..but, if you enjoyed his dancing – that is important…not what others think…don`t even get me started on the later dancing career of Rudy and his ” choreography”……
