As already reported on this blog here, and here, the recital series at La Scala seems to have a generous share of bad luck when it comes to cancellations.
There are only seven vocal recitals during a season, but in the last 18 months Daniela Barcellona, Diana Damrau, Rolando Villazón and Jonas Kaufmann have come a cropper, and Daniel Barenboim had to pull out of his recital with Barbara Frittoli.
Now Angela Gheorghiu has postponed Sunday's recital due to a “sudden illness”. She will now come to Milan's opera house on Friday 16 May 2014.
As season ticket holders paid for this concert more than a year ago, the theatre are offering refunds, if preferred.
Kaufmann's catch-up date is in three weeks: 21 October…

Graham Spicer is a writer, director and photographer in Milan, blogging (under the name ‘Gramilano') about dance, opera, music and photography for people “who are a bit like me and like some of the things I like”. He was a regular columnist for Opera Now magazine and wrote for the BBC until transferring to Italy.
His scribblings have appeared in various publications from Woman's Weekly to Gay Times, and he wrote the ‘Danza in Italia' column for Dancing Times magazine.
